On September the 11th, we are happy to welcome Ezio Manzini at the Service Design Lab to give an inspiring talk.
This afternoon will start with Ezio Manzini who shares his perspectives as described in his book “Politics of the Everyday“ and his ideas on social innovation in the city. The talk will be followed by a conversation with Pelle Ehn (Malmö University), Runa Sabroe (Danish Design Centre) and Nicola Morelli (Service Design Lab) who will join the discussion about the topics proposed by Ezio Manzini.
The climate crisis forces us to consider our work in a new perspective. The question is: how and how much are we contributing to the profound and rapid re-orientation that we know is needed?
For those who dealt with social innovation, in general, and social innovation in cities, in particular, this initial question must be reformulated as follows: how and how much transformative social innovation, as we have known it in the past decade, could contribute to environmental regeneration and de-carbonization processes consistent with the size and climate emergency?

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Ezio Manzini is Honorary Professor at Politecnico di Milano, Chair Professor at University of the Arts London, and presently Distinguished Professor on Design for Social Innovation at ELISAVA, and guest professor at Tongji University and Jiangnan University.Manzini is the founder of DESIS, an international network on design for social innovation and sustainability. He is worldwide known for his active role in developing leading edge academic research on the design for social and environmental sustainability.
Runa Sabroe is programme director at the Danish Design Centre. She heads and develops projects and programmes on the DDC’s strategic platform Design Cities. Runa works in the intersection of design research, public and private innovation and strategic change management. She worked for the cross-governmental innovation unit MindLab for seven years and has solid experience with the use of design as a framework for innovation and service development. From her job as a communication advisor in the internationally positioned architectural firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Runa brings in-depth experience with strategic organisation development within design and architecture.
Pelle Ehn is professor emeritus at the School of Arts and Communication, Malmö University, Sweden. He has for almost half a century been involved in the research field of collaborative and participatory design and in bridging design, democracy and technology. Research projects include DEMOS from the seventies on information technology and workplace democracy, UTOPIA from the eighties on user participation and skill based design, ATELIER from the turn of the century on architecture and technology for creative environments, and during the last decade Malmö Living Labs, an open environment for democratic design experiments.
Nicola Morelli is professor with specific responsibilities at Aalborg University, where he collaborates to the Master of Service Systems Design and to several research projects that explore the intersection of service design with social innovation and citizens’ participation in the processes of urban change, open data management, mobility and healthcare. https://servicedesignlab.aau.dk/
