About the Project
The CoDesign4Transitions project is a four-year doctoral network (2024-28) focused on innovative research at the intersection of co-design, design for sustainability, service and systems design, democratic innovation, and climate transitions. It aims to cultivate the talents of 13 transdisciplinary Doctoral Researchers who will pioneer democratic design methodologies for climate transitions in an interdisciplinary, intersectoral setting. The Service Design Lab hosts two such Doctoral Researchers, Christina and Daniele.
Led by Lucy Kimbell from the University of the Arts London and Marzia Mortati from Politecnico di Milano, the project brings together eight universities across seven European countries (Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Spain, UK) and 15 partners from business, government, and civil society, as well as a partner university from the US. The network provides Doctoral Researchers with a unique opportunity to explore how small-scale prototyping and testing can address social conflicts related to climate adaptation.
